Burleigh Heads: Gold Coast psychedelic-popsters EchoWave bring their timeless blend of technicolour melodies soaked in pretty harmonies and coated in a sheen of blissful synths to Mo’s Desert Clubhouse tonight.
Since the release of their new single, “Sad Dream”, EchoWave has been itching to reveal five new tracks in their show, “Makeup! Live”, which showcases the band’s recently discovered sonic territories.
EchoWave, a project by Sam Croaker, takes its enthralling live show on the road, touring Australia’s eastern coastline for the first time, starting locally at Burleigh Heads.
With solo recordings dating back to 2013, it’s clear that the unchaperoned approach to the studio was something cherished deeply by Croaker.
Brought up on steady diet of the power-pop movement from half a century ago, Croaker’s music captures its essence and manipulates it into the 21st century, with his debut EP, self-titled “EchoWave”, released in 2017.
It is a beautiful six-track record, where Croaker truly flexes his songwriting motives.
Shortly after its release, Croaker established a live band to deliver his songs throughout the thriving South-East Queensland live music scene, and he can’t wait to take his music further than ever before.
With a 60s Beatles-esque sound the music pushes into the 70s’ synth-pop, Croaker’s “Fantasyland” show first came to local prominence in 2019 at Fortitude Valley stalwart’s, Tym Guitars, where patrons stood shoulder to shoulder, and spilling out onto Winn Street just to catch a glimpse of his outfit.
It was during the 2020 infamous Covid-19 lockdowns, when Croaker, who was already oozing with musical experimentation, was handed a licence to push deeper into his musical dream, producing fan-favourite, “I Don’t Mind”.
The track showed Croaker’s crew were legit music makers, with a theme of acceptance tainted with dreamy guitar riffs, and it is the song that has audiences singing along by the first chorus.
Sam Croaker and his band, EchoWave, bring their exciting new sounds to Mo’s Desert Clubhouse tonight from 7pm, with guests, Dream Frankie Dream, Tomorrow’s Forecast, and Brave Daisy.
Mo’s Desert Clubhouse is at 6/36 Central Drive, Burleigh Heads, Gold Coast.
