Kangaroos With Machine Guns will play Gympie Music Hall on July 9 opening a four-date east coast tour built around instinct, improvisation and absolutely no set-lists.

Unlike most touring bands, Kangaroos With Machine Guns do not rehearse or plan their performances in advance.

Songs can be created onstage, with the four-piece following whatever direction the moment takes.

“Each show feels special to me,” Archer said.

“We don’t rehearse and we like to make up songs on the spot. Embrace whatever the moment is.”

Fronted by Archer, the band features Luke Dux on guitar, Ryan Dux on double bass and Todd Pickett on drums. The bi-coastal group is signed to Gympie-based label Flippin’ Yeah Records.

Flippin’ Yeah Records founder Darren Hanlon described the band’s sound as a “visceral Australian gothic soundscape”, shaped by Archer’s songwriting and the musicians’ loose, intuitive approach.

The group’s latest record was captured after a run of performances across Western Australia, including shows in halls, aged-care homes and, according to Luke Dux, even at traffic lights in Midland.

Gympie artist Georgia Blue will open the show after recently releasing her debut single, “Like an Old Friend”.

The performance is the first of only four east coast dates and is presented by Loose Knit Productions, North of the Wall and Flippin’ Yeah Records.

Doors open at 5.30pm, with a bar, snacks, vinyl and merchandise available on the night.
