Still going strong with new music last year
Formed in 1981 in Los Angeles, by vocalist and guitarist James Hetfield and drummer Lars Ulrich, Metallica has been based in San Francisco for most of their career.
The original pair are still in the line-up, with Kirk Lee Hammett – who entered the fold in 1983 as lead guitarist – and Robert Trujillo, who joined as bassist in 2003.
Metallica released new music in April last year: their eleventh studio album is titled, “72 Seasons”.
The album debuted at number one in 20 different countries, including Australia and New Zealand.
It offers 12 songs and more than 77 minutes of new tunes. Take a listen!
