Michael Beach brings experimental indie to Nambour

August 1, 20253 min read

Melbourne-based American singer/songwriter Michael Beach will head directly from his European tour to Nambour on August 8 to celebrate his latest LP.

The Californian-born musician will play his first Australian show for the album, “Big Black Plume”, at new Sunshine Coast music studio GLÓR.

This is a rare chance to catch Michael, whose music is a pleasant combination of indie-art-rock, with hints of alt-experimental and country, in an intimate setting.

Behind GLÓR is music promoter Patricia McInerney, (pictured below) of Basket of Hammers.

Patricia is known for hosting fringe genres in unusual settings, and is responsible for attractions such as The Glooming at Bli Bli’s The Old Church, and the popular October Samhain event.

Bringing music to ‘under-utilised’ and ‘unexpected’ spaces

A musician herself, Patricia performs as Diaspora The Explorer when she isn’t holding the fort at her promotion company.

Through Basket of Hammers and GLÓR, she creates raw, immersive experiences through supporting artists and musicians who work outside the mainstream.

Her focus is on transforming overlooked spaces and amplifying voices that challenge form and expectation.

She believes curiosity builds culture. The more room we make for unexpected encounters, the stronger and more connected the scene becomes.

GLÓR and BOH offer space for risk and experimentation, where honest work can land with real impact,” Patricia says.

“Show up. Take a chance on something you’ve never heard of. Share the work. Talk about it.

“Underground scenes survive on curiosity and community. Your presence, your support, even just spreading the word, makes a difference.

Michael Beach brings haunting ballads and spiralling in Nambour

Michael Beach’s “Big Black Plume” is a record shaped by years of touring, teaching, and recording across Melbourne, San Francisco and LA.

It moves between haunted ballads and spiralling psych, tied together by a strong sense of connection.

His LP was produced with Gareth Liddiard (Tropical Fuck Storm). It features Mick Turner (Dirty Three), Lloyd Swanton (The Necks), Fiona Kitschin, Leah Senior, Joe Talia and Utrillo Kushner.

Catch Michael on his six-stop Australia tour, before he heads to the US.

Tickets to Michael Beach, with support from Dylan Sparks, are limited.

Don’t snooze.
