Nicki Minaj and Erika Kirk: Surprising New Political Besties

December 22, 20252 min read

US rapper Nicki Minaj has made headlines speaking with Erika Kirk – the widow of late activist Charlie Kirk – at Turning Point USA‘s annual America Fest in Arizona. The singing superstar has been publicly spouting her new-found admiration for US President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance—figures she has previously criticised.

In the past, Nicki has been in public online spats with conservatives like Ben Shapiro. And more recently, she’s criticised Californian Governor Gavin Newsom‘s support for transgender healthcare for minors.

Holding hands on stage at the conservative rally, the insta-besties were greeted to a roaring crowd as Nicki’s song “Super Bass” played.

During the event Erika asks: “So, with regard to the current administration, what has been — maybe the biggest surprise for you, or something that you just — really has been put on your heart, that you’ve learned about our president and our vice president?”

The Trinidad-born artist responds: “Well, I have the utmost respect and admiration for our president. He has, I don’t know if he even knows this, but he’s given so many people hope that there’s a chance to beat the bad guys and to win and to do it with your head held high and your integrity intact.

“He’s from Queens, New York, like me.”

Nicki Minaj: ‘Newscum, we don’t have a problem cleaning up the scum’

Along with trying to dissuade the governor from running for President in 2028, Nicki Minaj calls the Californian Governor “Newscum”, a nickname Trump has previously used.

She says: “Dear Newscum, we don’t have a problem cleaning up the scum if we have to. Please tread lightly.

“That’s what I would say to Gavvy-poo.”

Amid her address, Nicki makes an embarrassing gaffe describing Vance as an “assassin”, while attempting to applaud his political skills. “Dear young men, you have amazing role models like our handsome, dashing president, and you have amazing role models like the assassin, JD Vance, our vice president.”

But Erika jumps to Nicki’s aid saying: “If the internet wants to clip it, who cares? I love this woman.”
