Phil and The Blanks set to debut on Sunshine Coast

October 1, 20255 min read

Tickets to see Phil and The Blanks supporting Sly Withers at Solbar on November 14 are HERE.

They are being touted as the Sunshine Coast’s “next best thing” since The Chats exploded onto airwaves with breakout song “Smoko” in 2017.

Hip-hop rock internet-sensation Phil and The Blanks will perform their first-ever show at Solbar next month.

Flanked in fishing-T-shirts and “servo sunnies”, the supergroup of four big-name musicians who were mostly obscure three months ago (pictured), shot to overnight fame in July.

Their first gig will be supporting Perth alternative rock band Sly Withers at the Maroochydore venue on November 14.

The larrikin mates’ debut song “GOOD BOY” is filled with hilarious one-liners like “I’m coming home in an ambulance mate” and “do you wanna get higher than the ceiling?”

The song has over one million streams on Spotify, and their social media reels have seen views as high as 550,000.

The all-star lineup features eshay-rapping frontman Connor Hanson (Chamber Lane, The Drop Beers), drumming sensation Bailey Walker (Dellacoma, The Justus Trio, Banned From The Club), indie-pop producer Oskar Campbell (Lounge), and bass-playing local legend Josiah Niven (Calan Mai, Chamber Lane).

Listen to the song that made Phil and The Blanks like actually overnight internet famous:

‘Fishing-tee-eshays’ being driven by TV’s Ian “Dicko” Dickson

The quirky quartet, who have been likened to Melbourne “bogan-funk” outfit Playlunch, were unknown to the public on June 30 and famous by July 1.

Known as “The Phils”, they take hilariously relatable content to popular locations across the Coast, popping up in shopping centre carparks or at picturesque beachside spots to perform their bangers.

Under the management of celebrity music coach Ian “Dicko” Dickson, it seems this pairing has been a match-made in legionnaire-hat heaven.

Now with global fans and followers (or should we say Ph-ans and Ph-ollowers), who are as deranged and loveable as their “Phape”-loving and “Ph-amous” counterparts (be careful it’s catchy!) – and characters like “Uncle Steven” being introduced to the fold, it looks as though the Phils are here to stay.

With their follow up song “WONKY DONKEY”, released in August, and a song about ADHD on the horizon, this creative force continues to set off fireworks across the internet.

Their TikKok videos are also exploding with 52,000 likes, while their YouTube addition of “GOOD BOY” has received 16,000 plays.

But it’s over on Instagram where the majority of the action takes place, and where you can follow along for all your daily doses of Phil.

The ‘Phils’ become enigmatic force with mystery gig

As they adjust to their rags to riches lifestyle, the Phils are remaining tight-lipped about their future plans.

However, their Spotify profile, which sports more than 75,000 monthly listeners, offers a bit more insight. It explains the Phils are just a “bunch of chancers chasing a pointless dream”.

“There is something absolutely thrilling in watching four mates (who all appear to have been home-schooled by the same family dog), rise above their dead-end lives to purse a rags to riches journey that will surely end in bitter confusion,” it says.

“Still, these boys do seem to know their way around a half decent tune. And we Aussies don’t mind an Aussie Battler story!

“Fuelled by a bopping groove and a taste for the simple things in life… they are mashing Dizzee Rascal with Blink-182. Just for the fun of it.”

As dark horses on the emerging musical landscape, Phil and The Blanks are equal parts enigmatic and exciting.

With no mention of their presence in the Sly Withers ticketing link, the boys will for now remain the Coast’s best kept secret.

(Or they’re just too busy practicing for their big night – who could blame them?).

The boys have hinted at their own headline show “Phil and Phrends” expected to round out the year.
