Regional Queensland has always had its own live music pulse: country festivals, theatre rooms, pub stages, coastal weekender shows, touring acts, folk gatherings and strange little local moments that can be easy to miss if you are only watching the south-east corner.
This is not the full calendar. It is a quick YELO pick-list of five regional Queensland gigs, festivals or live music moments worth putting on your radar before you accidentally spend another weekend pretending the couch is a cultural activity.
Five regional Queensland gigs worth leaving the house for this month — from Townsville and Toowoomba to Redcliffe and beyond.
Country Fest Queensland
Cluden Park, Townsville — Friday, June 12 and Saturday, June 13
A big North Queensland country weekend with Morgan Evans, James Johnston, The Wolfe Brothers, Rachael Fahim, Max Jackson and more. One for people who like their live music with dust, boots and a proper regional crowd.
Townsville Folk Festival
Foots Hill Station, Reid River — Friday, June 12 to Sunday, June 14
A long-running North Queensland folk, roots and community music weekend. Less arena spectacle, more camp chairs, stories, songs and the kind of regional gathering that reminds you music was never meant to live only online.
Phil Jamieson
Mouse Proof Brewery, Toowoomba — Thursday, June 18
The Grinspoon frontman brings his solo show through Toowoomba, which feels like exactly the kind of regional stop worth noticing. Big Australian rock history, pulled into a smaller room.
PNAU
The Powerhouse, Toowoomba — Friday, June 27
A big electronic pick outside the usual city loop. One for anyone who wants a regional night out with actual dance-floor voltage.
Where We Belong Festival
Settlement Cove Lagoon, Redcliffe — Friday, June 27
The Screaming Jets, Pricey, Large Mirage and more by the water. Not quite the deep north, not quite Brisbane, but very much part of the wider Queensland gig map worth leaving the house for.
Catch up on regional Queensland gigs, festivals, live music stories and scene notes from outside the usual south-east corner.
