Review: The Terrys bring sunshine and heat to Caloundra

January 18, 20264 min read

Pictured: The Terrys brought all summer vibes to a hot and sticky crowd at Norton Music Factory, Caloundra West, on Saturday night. The sold-out, all-ages event was supported by “rugby-rock” legends The Beefs and Sunny Coast punk icons Chamber Lane.

Australian indie surf-rockers The Terrys have built a reputation for turning every room they step into, into a sun-soaked, slightly-chaotic, fully-cathartic singalong. Their latest Queensland set proved exactly why they’ve become one of the country’s most beloved DIY success stories.

From the moment they walked onstage, the crowd felt like one giant friend group. No egos. No theatrics. Just that signature Terrys blend of scrappy surf-punk, jangly guitars and cheeky banter that makes every show feel like a backyard gig that accidentally went viral.

The weatherman is turning it on tonight, but not with clear skies or cool breezes. It’s that classic, unhinged, sweat-drenching humidity that hugs you like warm soup the moment you arrive. The girl in front of me is forced to apologise twice for her hair sticking to my body.

It’s extreme. It’s ridiculous. It’s peak QLD.

The Terrys isn’t just about the music it’s a total vibe

Frontman Jacob Finch keeps checking on everyone, asking everyone if they’re ok, encouraging fans to look after each other. It’s not performative — it’s who they are. They care. They always do.

The Terrys push on and bring pure sunshine (not that we needed any more). They are happy surfers through and through, spreading love and joy everywhere they go. “Our Paradise” rings out and the crowd sings in harmony. “Pesos” turns the room into a delirious, joy-filled choir, and “Penny” brings it home for a certain gal in the crowd.

Even in the dripping “soup” bowl, everyone moves, jumps, laughs, and crowd-surfs even. It’s impossible not to. When “No Bad Days” hits, the entire space feels like one community caught in the same wild weather, complete with Channel 7 rolling coverage, melting together, but smiling through it all.

Because it’s The Terrys! And these humid-loving humbugs don’t just play gigs — they transform a brutally hot night into a celebration of kindness, connection and pure indie-surf energy. What makes The Terrys special isn’t just the music; it’s the vibe.

Equal parts surf-shack and suburban rebellion, their shows feel like the permission slip you have been needing to be yourself again: loud, loose, and alive.

The set closed with new hit song “Catalonia Dreams” and honestly, it was the only way it could’ve ended.

A full-circle, full-heart moment. Everyone arm in arm. Everyone grinning, and remembering why live music matters.

Verdict: The Terrys don’t just play shows — they build micro communities for the night. The weather was wild. The sweat was palpable. The personal space was gone. But somehow, it became the happiest night on my gig calendar this year.

Keep an ear out for their new track later this month!
