Spiegeltent is erect!

August 29, 20236 min read

Maroochydore: Discover cabaret, circus, dance, music, and some cheeky and not-so cheeky entertainment, for all ages as the Wonderland Spiegeltent comes alive at Cotton Tree as part of Horizon Festival, until September 3.

If you haven’t come across a Spiegeltent (that’s Dutch for mirror tent) before, it’s a ginormous big top-style tent, constructed from wood and canvas and decorated with mirrors and stained glass.

And we have one right here on the Sunshine Coast! Gasp!

Overlooking the gorgeous Maroochy River, the Spiegeltent offers an outside garden space where visitors can relax in the Festival Hub garden with a glass of vino, enjoy local street food, entertain the kids with workshops, and have a boogie.

Horizon Festival is Council’s annual premier multi-arts festival, stretching over 10 days with music, art, theatre, dance, workshops and ceremony all coming alive across our spectacular beaches, hinterland, warehouses and other wonderful spaces.

And we have your complete round-up for the incredible Wonderland Spiegeltent right here!

Suited to all ages, audiences are sure to be hypnotised by the spell-binding magic as they are immersed in the fantastical world of Neverland and the Mermaid Cove, in this fun-filled enchanting circus adventure.

Tick tock! A magical wonderland awaits…

ROUGE, August 30-September 2. Tickets: wonderlandspiegeltent.com.au

Circus for grown-ups: ROUGE is a decadent blend of sensational acrobatics, operatic cabaret, and tongue-in-cheek burlesque.

All the spectacle of a circus with a deliciously deviant, adults-only twist — ROUGE is a mind-bending blend of death-defying acrobatics, grandiose cabaret and deeply twisted burlesque.

A titillating celebration of astonishing proportions that’s surprising, subversive, and supremely sexy.

Junior Burger Rock Show – September 1, 3pm. Tickets here: https://www.horizonfestival.com.au/event/junior-burger-rock-show

Junior Burger joints the Spiegeltent on September 1 and is a rock show for little ones that promises parents “no boring music!” — replacing the usual kiddy hum-drum with super rad beats and tasty guitars riffs that will have even the adults kicking the air and fist pumping. Oh, yeah!

Junior Burger is the latest project from motorcycle-riding funklords Burger Joint who decided it was about time the kids got a decent rock concert, too!

With songs about dogs at the beach, chicken parmys, and just being yourself, Junior Burger really is the people’s band.

No watermelon songs, guaranteed! You can expect dancefloor fillers such as “It’s Bin Night”, “Be Nice”, and their triple platinum hit, “If you make a mess, clean it up!”. (Heck, maybe we should take our teens too!)

Bees by Polyglot Theatre, September 1 at 10am, 11.15am and 1.15pm. Tickets: FREE

Bees is a joyful, interactive work where children are invited to join in and explore a buzzing, humming hive of activity in the Festival Hub garden as three human-sized bees busy themselves in the creation of a community, alongside children who transform themselves into bees as they play.

The bees are fascinating, strange and beautiful, traversing invisible pathways, and mapping delicate patterns across the garden. Children are invited to participate in the bees world of community, communication, wonder, and imagination.

Inspired by the mysterious life and work of bees, this re-imagining of the garden space involves the slow uncovering of an intricate unseen world.

Children are immersed in the sounds, shapes and scents of the bee world — from their familiar buzz to honeycomb houses.

Bees uses ritual, non-verbal communication, and the secret world of bee movement to provide a range of access points for children to participate.

Important information: As a roving-style performance, there are no separate audience and performance areas. The show is suitable for families with kids aged 4-11. Duration is 45 minutes.

Horizon Festival — the Sunshine Coast’s premier multi-arts festival — runs until September 3.

The Spiegeltent also features the Common People Dance Eisteddfod: Sunshine Coast Rally and a Circus Skills Workshop, which have both SOLD OUT. So be quick to secure your tickets!
