BREAKING: Tonight’s Sum 41 Brisbane show has been cancelled as frontman Deryck Whibley is diagnosed with pneumonia.
The band announced the news on social media on Wednesday:
“Unfortunately, we have to make the difficult decision to cancel tonight’s show in Brisbane due to Deryck being diagnosed with pneumonia,” it reads.
“He is receiving the best possible local care and we are working with the promoter to make sure all ticket buyers for tonight’s show are refunded and will let you know more soon. – Sum 41”
It comes as Sacramento’s DESTROY BOYS announce they can no longer perform at Good Things this year. They said in a statement:
“Due to unforeseen circumstances, we will have to cancel our appearance at Good Things and Australia shows. To our Aussie fans – we are sorry we can’t make it this time, and we can’t wait to meet you in the future! – Destroy Boys.”
Promoter Destroy All Lines have advised patrons attending tonight’s Sum 41 Brisbane show can receive a refund.
It is unknown if Sum 41 will play at Good Things Festival. The festival is on December 6, 7 and 8, in Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane respectively.
Deryck Whibley’s memoir released earlier in this year
Canadian musician Deryck Whibley released his memoir “Walking Disaster: My Life Through Heaven and Hell” in October.
The book is available via Gallery Books or you can get a copy at sum41.com/book.
It touts itself as a candid memoir of music, fame, following Deryck’s rise from a punk kid to an international star.
“From his earliest days growing up in Canada, Deryck Whibley was a punk who loved music and couldn’t wait to achieve something bigger and better than the humble path that lay before him. Whibley was raised by a single mom and their small family constantly moved from place to place, so he was used to being the new kid, starting fights (or finishing them), and connecting with people who shared his sensibility for chaotic fun and loud music. Sum 41 was born of a group of friends who loved to jam, shared a DIY ethos, and were determined to be rock stars one day.
“Walking Disaster is Whibley’s story, but it is also the untold story of Sum 41. Whibley takes you backstage, into the recording booth, and through the highest highs and lowest lows of the band whose story is inextricably woven with his own.”
His book tour saw fans get an exclusive look into the making of his memoir and receive a signed copy of the book.
