HUGO & THE HIVE (main photo):
Born in the heart of Gympie’s thriving school music scene, Hugo & The Hive is a rising queer indie-rock band. Formed in junior high, this dynamic quartet has grown into one of South-East Queensland’s most exciting young acts. Equal parts raw energy, heartfelt songwriting, and authentic connection, they recently opened for Brisbane legends Full Flower Moon Band. With a fearless DIY-spirit and a deep passion for live music, Hugo & The Hive is cementing their reputation as ones to watch.
JEMZEL:
Jemzel is a Filipino/Australian alternative artist and producer making music in a bedroom. With a plethora of sonic influences including rock, folk and soul, Jemzel makes music based on personal experiences. At age 11, she used the internet to teach herself music production and audio engineering. And in 2023, she released debut bedroom-pop track ‘Tell Nobody’. The track quickly gained attention on social media, and has now amassed 700,000 listens and counting on Spotify alone.
KARMA POLICE:
Karma Police is a four-piece band with a grunge-inspired alt-rock, post-punk sound. Their growing following has seen this group of teenagers playing venues and festivals across the Sunshine Coast. After winning ‘Best Original Song’ in a recent battle of the bands they scored a recording session at Yama-Nui Studio. There they put down their first track, ‘Getaway’, mixed by Steve Summers (aka S.T.O.N.E.W.A.X.) and mastered by Jordan Power. They recently won another high school Battle of the Band at St Andrews College, scoring a $1000 cash prize. Alumni of Katie Noonan’s Eumundi School of Music, they supported The Superjesus at the ESOM Mini Festival this year.
