Hundreds of Coolum punks from all generations – from Gen X to Zoomers – descended on Blackflag Brewing for an all-out punk-rock show on Saturday night.

Aussie 90s rockstars Bodyjar headlined Something Cool Festival at the Sunshine Coast alternative brewhouse in Coolum’s outer industrial estate.

Female-fronted Sydney nu-metal band Red Hook came to the rescue when Antiskeptic sadly had to pull out due to a mental illness.

Working closely with the music community, Blackflag was able to snag the rising nu-metal stars who likely only bolstered last-minute ticket sales, and organisers are kindly donating all proceeds to Support Act who provide mental health and crisis assistance to the music industry.

Local bands The Yeah Nahs, The Wolston Butchers, Dad Fight, and Fake News, were outrageously on point, blowing anarchistic punters’ expectations well beyond the fermentation tanks.

The moral of the story is: punk is not dead. And it’s definitely not dead on the Sunshine Coast.

If you know someone who is suffering from mental illness, you can contact Lifeline Australia for help: Chat: Online chat is available 24/7 Call: 13 11 14 to speak with a trained Crisis Supporter Text: 0477 13 11 14.

BREAK THE SILENCE AND SPEAK UP. We’re all in it together!
