Melbourne’s Playlunch bring “bogan funk” to Brisbane

Melbourne’s self-professed “bogan funk” outfit Playlunch is heading to The Triffid in Brisbane on September 12.

The brattish, seven-piece, brass-funk outfit offers an infectious catalogue of genre-blending tracks, covering childhood nostalgia and distinctly Aussie themes.

Their cheery nod to the dreaded early schooling years is both a fond reminder of yesteryear. And a comical dose of childhood trauma.

Their songs feature the chanting of playground adages, such as “No Hat No Play”. And they put the spotlight on peculiar memories such as daytime TV on a sick day and Blue Light Discos.

There’s even some bangers about life beyond the principal’s desk, with “Keith” about a car-spot swiping lowlife. Or as they put it – “c*nt”.

This tour celebrates Playlunch’s much-anticipated second album, “Sex Ed”. And as you can guess, this one blesses us with the more hilarious reminders.

With obvious talent in this exciting new cohort, Playlunch are also playing shows in Adelaide, Perth, Brisbane, and Sydney.

In their biggest national tour to date, they will conclude their trip in their hometown city for a final show.

“We’re so pumped to celebrate this new album we’ve worked crazy hard on for the past year,” the band said in a statement.

“It’s absolutely bananas to us how much love, support and dedication our fans continue to give us. And this tour is a celebration of our commitment back to you guys. We’re going to bring it.

“These shows will not only be in these crazy surreal venues, but will also be the biggest Playlunch show you’ll have ever seen.”

Joining Playlunch on tour is Brisbane-based duo JUNO, who have been making waves in the Australian live circuit with their irresistible blend of alt-pop.
