Skillz FJ brings songs and laughs to Peregian Beach Hotel

June 5, 20263 min read

Skillz FJ is bringing reggae, island roots and Sunday-session energy to Peregian Beach Hotel this weekend, with a free afternoon set just behind the dunes.

The Sunshine Coast artist, who has built a lively Facebook following with his funny, family-friendly reels and island-rooted performance clips, brings his warmth, humour and reggae sound to the beachside pub from 3pm on Sunday as part of the venue’s rolling June gig guide.

For anyone looking for an easy Sunday session, this one lands in the right pocket: afternoon music, cold drinks, beach air and a setlist built for families, locals and anyone happy to settle in for a few familiar songs.

Moana, music and island roots

Local Lore tells us Skillz was once hand-selected to audition for Disney’s Moana, and while he did not end up in the film, it is a pretty good clue to the kind of island-rooted voice and character he brings to a room.

His sets move through reggae, Pacific Island tunes, Aussie singalongs, 80s and 90s favourites, and song requests gathered from past shows.

Live music at Peregian Beach Hotel

Peregian Beach Hotel has been keeping June busy, with live music running through the month across Friday nights, Saturday afternoons and Sunday sessions.

The June lineup includes Hayden Hack, Vinyl Session Ryskee, Skillz, Sari Abbott, Anna & Jordan, Karma Police, Kristen Famularo, Simon Meola, Christina Ukulele, Jesse Taylor and Che Burns.

It is part of the venue’s wider push to make local live music a regular part of the Peregian Beach week, not just an occasional extra when the weather is good and someone remembers to book a guitarist.

A Sunday session just behind the dunes

There are worse ways to spend a Sunday than wandering off the beach and into a live set built around reggae, island rhythms and familiar songs.

Skillz FJ plays Peregian Beach Hotel on Sunday, June 7, from 3pm.

Entry is free. More details are available via Peregian Beach Hotel.

Winter sessions

Winter Vinyl Nights start in il Porto bar

Peregian Beach Hotel is adding Winter Vinyl Nights to il Porto bar, starting this Saturday and running every second Saturday through winter.

Ryskee is booked for June, with more vinyl DJs lined up for July and August as the winter series rolls on.
