You Am I will bring their landmark album Hourly Daily to Brisbane for two special shows with a string quartet this October.
The Australian rock veterans will play The Tivoli on October 22 and 23 as part of their newly announced Strung Up east coast tour.
The concerts will celebrate 30 years since the release of Hourly Daily, with songs from the album reworked for the band and string quartet. The set will also draw from across You Am I’s wider catalogue.
It will be a very different setting for a band best known for delivering its songs with guitars turned firmly upwards.
Frontman Tim Rogers said the chance to revisit the band’s music with orchestral arrangements had given the group a fresh way into the material.
“Our peculiar brand of musical thuggery has oft been blessed by instrumental finery,” Rogers said.
“Working with musicians of less traditional RnR stripe is thrilling and invigorating. Pomp and circumstance with our grubby thumping heart pushing the bunch of us forever onward.”
Thirty years of ‘Hourly Daily’
Released in 1996, Hourly Daily debuted at No.1 on the ARIA Albums Chart and became one of the defining Australian rock albums of the decade.
Its songs captured suburban life, relationships and everyday Australian detail without sanding away the rough edges that made You Am I such a formidable live band.
The Strung Up shows will feature specially selected arrangements from the album, along with fan favourites, deep cuts and other songs from the band’s career.
The tour begins with You Am I’s first performance inside the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall on October 18, before moving to Brisbane and then Melbourne’s Recital Centre.
The announcement follows the band’s string-quartet performance of “Heavy Heart” at the 2025 ARIA Awards.
Vinyl reissue announced
You Am I will also mark the anniversary with a new vinyl edition of Hourly Daily, due for release on October 9.
The band will release Dailies, Seconds on the same day, collecting 14 B-sides and demos from the Hourly Daily era.
Tickets for the Strung Up tour go on sale to the general public at 10am AEST on June 30.
A 24-hour artist and partner presale begins at 10am on June 29.
