Brisbane live music venue Crowbar has stepped in to save the New Year’s Eve celebrations of another venue following an alleged firebombing incident.
Popular Fortitude Valley nightspot Tomcat made the announcement on Sunday, saying the arson attack had left the business with “extensive damage”.
“So some dickhead firebombed the tobacconist below us,” the Facebook post reads.
“We’re closed at least until the 1st of January, waiting on a full report from the assessor’s this Monday.
“Copped a bit of water damage to the floor boards, but a whole heap of smoke damage.
“This means this weekends events have been cancelled, the NYE (event) managed to find a new location at Crowbar.”
Tomcat will remain closed after extensive damage
Tomcat, which is an incubator for local emerging talent, say they will stay shut until insurance accessors have investigated.
“Definitely not what we wanted for Christmas,” an earlier post reads.
“Boxing Day morning, an unknown individual firebombed the tobacconist that had recently opened up next to Prohibition.
“We weren’t open for trade, so no staff were harmed, and to our knowledge the only person who got burnt was the person setting the fire themselves
“Tomcat got hit with heavy smoke and water damage, meaning we need to wait until all the damage is assessed, cleaned, and repaired.
“For any ticketed events, we will be contacting OZtix to organise refunds.”
Tomcat had to cancel several shows in the lead up to December 31.
However all was not lost when their music industry friends at Crowbar stepped in.
“One Phoenix has been raised from the ashes though, our NYE lineup with Crushing Promotions has found a new home for the night at Crowbar Brisbane!
“Definitely recommend getting along and showing the bands some love, it’s not a lineup to be missed, and you might even see some of the tomcat bar staff one side or the other of the bar.”
Crowbar reopened last month in the same spot iconic venue The Zoo formerly operated for 32 years.
The Local Romance, Reckless Coast and Drop Beers to perform
Crushing Promotions entertainment is hosting a stellar line-up of local talent at Crowbar on December 31.
The line-up includes The Local Romance, Reckless Coast, Tripsitta, The Drop Beers and Twilight Idols.
The Drop Beers are a Sunshine Coast super-group of exceptional local musicians, including Chamber Lane‘s Connor Hanson, and unofficial Bundy Rum ambassadorJett Hewson.
