US rapper Eminem’s mother Debbie Nelson has died overnight following a battle with lung cancer, it is being reported.
Debbie, 69, had been battling “advanced lung cancer” for three months, when she passed in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Since the start of his career, Eminem has made songs about his strained relationship with his mother, with some saying the music legend was still estranged from her when she died.
However, this is contradictory to reports that the pair had reconciled in recent times.
Eminem‘s 2002 song, “Cleanin’ Out My Closet”, details the alleged abuse he suffered under Debbie’s care.
The famous song also references his daughter Haillie Jade, with the Detroit native rapping that Haillie won’t be at her grandmother’s funeral.
Debbie filed an $11 million defamation lawsuit against her son after his 1999 track “My Name Is”, which contains lyrics alleging she is a drug addict.
While a judge ruled in her favour, Debbie was only handed US$25,000, the majority of which she had to use for her lawyers’ fees.
In 2008, Debbie released a memoir called, “My Son Marshall, My Son Eminem”, which outlines details about their estranged relationship.
Only yesterday, Eminem released a spooky limited edition Death Certificate Shadow Box, which celebrates his twelfth studio album, “The Death of Slim Shady”, which was released in July.
The Shadow Box is signed by Eminem and retails for a cool US$1000.
