The biggest gigs on the Sunshine Coast this year

August 31, 20242 min read

Dial up the enthusiasm, gig heads.

As the temperature soars and tourists flock to our shorelines, the Sunny Coast live music scene is heating up.

The Station, Kings Beach Tavern, Solbar, and Norton Music Factory are chock-full of entertainment for the rest of the year.

This month we have massive Aussie rockers Dune Rats, blues great Ash Grunwald, and 90s popstar sensation Rick Price.

Middle Kids, Sheppard, Kita Alexander, Grinspoon, Smith Street Band, are just a few big names coming here in October.

And November brings Dan Sultan, Ben Lee, Sons of the East, Bluff Fest with The Grogans and The Terrys, Casey Barnes, and Taylor Moss.

We could go on!

Big Pineapple Festival is here next month

The Big Pineapple Festival, on October 19, is one of the biggest events left on our music calendar.

Organiser Mark Pico the festival is on track to selling out.

Mark says he’s been “confident from the start”, despite a nation-wide trend of music festivals being cancelled.

What is the festival’s winning ingredient?

Mark attributes the iconic 16-metre tall fibreglass pineapple structure as a major drawcard to the event.

Peking Duk recently performed at the Big Pineapple (pictured) for a secret pop-up rave.

It’s the event’s quintessentially Australian theme and kitsch flavour, which makes it successful, he says.

Not to mention its proximity to world-class beaches and dining precincts.

“I mean how many other festivals have had had a visit from Prince Charles and Princess Diana?” Mark says.

Next year, we can expect the festival to become a two-day event, he says.

And punters can rest assured they won’t be paying more than $10 a pop for a beer.

Mark says Woodford Folk Festival, which arrives in December, is his biggest inspiration.
