Music brings happiness to community

October 2, 20232 min read

Southport: An annual Gold Coast event has proven that channelling yourself into an artistic or musical project can bring more purpose and happiness into your life.

The ArtBeat Music and Arts Festival, which runs from October 10-27 at the Gold Coast University Hospital, celebrates the creative strengths and talents of the Gold Coast’s mental health community.

Now in its 10th year, the annual exhibition by ArtBeat aligns with Queensland Mental Health Week and aims to de-stigmatise mental health by giving consumers a platform to express their experiences in their own way.

The hospital’s mental health staff said their community had worked on the project for several months to ensure their art was ready for the exhibition putting their hearts and souls into their creations.

An event by Gold Coast Health, the ArtBeat Music and Arts Festival is supported by the hospital’s in-house creative artisans and music therapists, and will showcase the guidance and help provided to its “mental health consumers”.

By channelling their self-expression into something that could be shared publicly, staff said their consumers had been able to remain focused on recovery, and build meaning and purpose into their lives.

This festival is open to the public – including all Gold Coast Health community members, staff and consumers – with live music, food, giveaways, face painting, free mental health information, and more.

The ArtBeat Music and Arts Festival will be set in the Gold Coast University Hospital Parklands from October 13 from 11am-2pm.

Or stop by until October 27 to view their fantastic artwork on display at the Gold Coast University Hospital’s Main Foyer.

The Gold Coast University Hospital Parklands is at 53 Parklands Dr, Southport.
