Nambour bar opening is a sell-out

October 5, 20235 min read

Nambour: Highly-anticipated live music establishment and cocktail lounge, The Presynct Venue & Bar, will officially open its doors on Saturday night.

But if you think you’re going to the opening night you can ditch those plans with tickets to the Sunshine Coast’s hottest new spot’s celebrations selling out in just days.

Business partner Rusty Nyman has kept a tight lid on much of the bar’s details saying she doesn’t want to release photos until the event has passed.

But she told YELO on Thursday that hype over the opening night had been so “mental” that she even had to knock back several media opportunities to keep up with demands for the grand opening.

“I can’t get over what’s happening this week,” Nyman said.

“I have 27 unread messages in my Facebook inbox all about this. The support is phenomenal.

“I feel really humbled, so grateful, and so proud to be a part of the Sunshine Coast community, and just can’t wait to see bands shine on our little stage in our little space.”

Nyman said she had been contacted by at least three newspapers, one magazine and a radio station in the past two weeks.

She said she felt “terrible” that she hadn’t replied to several of the messages, saying she had been working around the clock to finish the space in preparation for the night.

“I know that’s terrible because I need to advertise my business, but I haven’t had time.

“I need seven of me right now.”

Nyman has been working on the business and its fit-out for the past three years, working a regular day job and then into the next morning – sometimes until 4am – renovating the space.

The business is a mother-daughter venture, with Nyman and her daughter Cherry as equal business partners, and they both worked intensively with their builder.

And with more than 1500 followers already on the business’s Facebook page, it seems the Sunshine Coast community is completely behind the Nymans, and are elated to see Nambour finally shine as a live music precinct.

The Presynct is a play-on words for the Sunshine Coast Council’s Nambour Special Entertainment Precinct (SEP), which hatched in 2014 under the Planning Scheme, and accommodates a range of business uses and entertainment activities.

These include restaurants, bars, theatres, hotel traders, and nightclubs, which can have live or amplified music.

The Nambour SEP provides for “lower impact” entertainment uses like restaurants and small bars across centre zones and key tourist areas to encourage vibrancy and support the night time economy.

Council launched the plan as a way of being a “helping hand” for Nambour businesses and to get the suburb moving forward as an entertainment precinct.

It became more cost-effective to establish in the precinct, with Council discounting development application fees by 50 per cent to incentivise new business start-ups.

Nambour Councillor David Law said he wasn’t “lucky enough” to get tickets to the sell-out event.

“Congratulations to Rusty for this wonderful new venue for Nambour,” Cr Law said.

Nyman said she couldn’t wait to have more time to tell YELO more about the business’s history, which dates back to when she was 18 years old and was “quite a story”.

“I’d like to really invest in this community and not just do things half-heartedly” she said after apologising she couldn’t talk to YELO “properly” before the event.

Nyman said she was in complete shock with the opening night sell-out, but was so excited to finally launch The Presycnt in Nambour and show the community the project they had slaved over for so long.

“It’s completely sold out, it’s maxed out. I can’t squeeze one more person in even if my nan wanted to come,” she said.

“It’s amazing.”
