A new Sunshine Coast nightspot which was open for just three months has been forced to cancel all upcoming shows.
It comes as the venue’s owner was reportedly charged for processing and producing drugs.
The Vogue, a historic theatre built in the 1950s in Nambour, was serving as a live music venue when owners announced on Facebook it would be temporarily closed.
Several sources told Yelo the temporary closure related to the building’s ongoing renovation costs and compliancy issues.
‘Not a moody vampire night club town’
Social media users are turning to community boards to speculate about the closure, with some blaming liquor licensing and others citing “staffing issues”.
One Facebook user says “It didn’t seem to really suit Nambour if you ask me. Nambour is more of a ‘heritage town’ not a moody vampire night club town’.”
Another person says: “Took years to open and now shut.”
Someone else says: “Shame. It was gorgeous.”
The Courier Mail reports on Wednesday that owner Trent Laing, 47, appeared in Maroochydore Magistrates Court on July 2 pleading guilty to seven charges.
“The owner of two Sunshine Coast pubs and a string of bottle shops was caught with a stash of drugs as well as a set up to grow his own cannabis when police visited his home,” it reports.
The Vogue announced the closure on June 20, just days after its major long-weekend launch party, hosted by The Groove Lab, featuring popular DJ Yussi.
More to come.
