A pool party with a stage in Townsville, an all-female techno takeover in Nambour and competitive damper throwing out west. Queensland’s got a lot going on this weekend.
We went looking beyond the obvious gig listings and found five very different things happening across Queensland from Friday October 2 to Sunday October 4.
There’s live music at a Far North Queensland distillery, New Orleans jazz spilling into the street in Brisbane and one regional festival where the damper is purely for throwing.
1. DRIFT, Townsville
Saturday October 3, Tobruk Memorial Baths
Part pool party, part live show and part art installation, DRIFT turns Tobruk Memorial Baths into a floating music playground for NAFA. Hermitude headlines alongside Drifting Clouds, Benjamin Walsh and Mie Nakazawa.
Float, swim or dance while the music, lights and immersive art happen around the water. DRIFT runs from 1pm to 6pm and is 18+. More info.
2. Brunswick Street Parade, Brisbane
Friday October 2, The Ruby Jazz Club
Brunswick Street Parade brings early New Orleans jazz into Fortitude Valley, digging into vintage tunes before taking the music outside for parade performances in the street.
The show starts at 6.30pm and tickets are $25. More info.
3. Music at the Mount, Atherton Tablelands
Saturday October 3, Mt Uncle Distillery, Walkamin
Live music at a distillery in the Atherton Tablelands is a pretty solid Saturday plan. Music at the Mount runs from 2pm to 8pm with Katie Richards and Nicole Nighthawk, plus G&Ts, margaritas, daiquiris, local beer and street food.

4. Australian Camp Oven Festival, Millmerran
Saturday October 3 and Sunday October 4, Millmerran Showgrounds
Australia’s biggest camp oven cooking event takes over Millmerran, about 82km west of Toowoomba, for two days of bush cooking, live entertainment, heritage displays, workshops and camping.
And yes, there is a damper throwing competition. These are not the sort you spread with butter: the festival says its throwing dampers are made from a hardy mix of flour, BondCrete, onion bags and other mystery ingredients. There is also billy boiling, bush poetry and camp oven cooking.
5. Elevation 4, Nambour
Friday October 2, The Presynct
Elevation 4 brings an all-female DJ lineup to Nambour, playing groove, hypnotic, acid and hard techno. Doors open at 6pm. General admission is $20 plus booking fee online, or $25 at the door.
