Regional Queensland Music Festivals is YELO’s guide to destination festivals, camping weekends and major music events beyond Brisbane, the Gold Coast and the Sunshine Coast.

Major regional Queensland festivals

Festival-goers at a regional Queensland music festival

Beyond South East Queensland, regional festival culture stretches from Far North Queensland to the outback, with destination events drawing crowds from across the state.

Big Red Bash — July 7–9

Held in Queensland’s Simpson Desert near Birdsville, Big Red Bash is one of the state’s most distinctive music events, combining outback camping with major Australian artists in an iconic remote setting. Its scale and location make it one of Queensland’s most recognisable destination festivals, though the 2026 event site is currently being reassessed following major flooding in the region.

Gympie Music Muster — August 27–30

First held in 1982, Gympie Music Muster is one of Australia’s most iconic country music festivals. Held in Amamoor State Forest near Gympie, the event draws tens of thousands of fans each year and has raised more than $20 million for community charities.

Savannah in the Round — October 8–11

Held in Mareeba, Savannah in the Round is a large-scale regional festival combining camping with a line-up that spans country, rock and Australian favourites. Its size and location make it one of Queensland’s clearest examples of festival culture beyond the south-east corner.

Airlie Beach Festival of Music — November 6–8

Held in Airlie Beach, Airlie Beach Festival of Music is a multi-day live music event that spreads across waterfront venues, bars and its main festival tent. Its mix of destination appeal, holiday atmosphere and established Australian acts makes it one of regional Queensland’s standout music weekends.

Australian Festival of Chamber Music — July 24–August 1

Held in Townsville, the Australian Festival of Chamber Music is one of Queensland’s best-known classical music events, bringing leading Australian and international musicians together across a multi-day program. Its scale, reputation and genre focus give Queensland’s festival calendar a strong cultural dimension beyond contemporary touring festivals.

Boutique and destination festivals

Some of Queensland’s most distinctive festival experiences happen outside the major city centres, with regional events offering a different pace, setting and community feel.

Wallaby Creek Festival — September 25–27

Held near Rossville in Far North Queensland, Wallaby Creek Festival is a three-day music and arts campout set among the wet tropics rainforest south of Cooktown. Its community feel, family-friendly atmosphere and remote setting make it one of Queensland’s most distinctive regional festival experiences.

Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival — February 19–21

Held in Agnes Water, the Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival is a regional live music weekend built around blues, roots and rock in a relaxed coastal setting. Its smaller scale and coastal feel make it a distinctive part of Queensland’s regional festival calendar.
