Nambour feminist punk trio Lattes for MILFs will perform at Gympie Music Hall on June 26 as two local festivals join forces for a night of film, live music, visual art and community connection.
Space Girls Festival and Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival will present Space Girls ON FILM, an all-ages event celebrating women’s and LGBTIQ+ voices across music, film and art.
Doors open at 6pm, with the hall transformed into a pop-up cinema, gallery and live performance space.
The night will feature a curated program of short films exploring identity, resilience and self-expression, followed by a live performance from Lattes for MILFs.
The Nambour three-piece has spent the past two years playing across South East Queensland, with singles “Feminpissed” and “Converse Shoe” already released and a debut album expected to be recorded this year.
“The excitement of playing an inclusive, community-focused event where film and live music audiences intersect for us is pretty unique, so of course we are all so keen to join the Space Girls Festival family,” the band said.
Young curator shapes film program
The short-film program was curated by 20-year-old Heart of Gold intern Liz Wilkinson.
It includes comedy, animation, music-inspired storytelling and a local documentary, with stories centred on identity, resilience and creative self-expression.
Heart of Gold International Short Film Festival director Nicole Harper said giving younger people a role in shaping cultural events was an important part of the collaboration.

“Liz has put together a program that is entertaining, thoughtful and accessible, and we’re thrilled to share it with audiences,” she said.
Harper said the event continued Heart of Gold’s long-standing focus on building empathy and connection through storytelling.
“For 20 years Heart of Gold has brought people together through stories that celebrate our shared humanity,” she said.
“ON FILM continues that tradition by creating a space where different forms of creative expression come together and where people from across our community can gather, listen, learn and support one another.”
Art exhibition joins the program
The Very Fabric of Society, an art project and photographic exhibition by Cindy Vogels and Brea Martin, will also be displayed throughout the venue.
Previously shown at Gympie’s ART POST, the collaborative project explores community, belonging and connection through visual storytelling.
Space Girls Festival founder and co-director Cindy Vogels said the event was designed to feel welcoming to the whole community.
“This event centres female and LGBTIQ+ voices, but it is absolutely for everyone,” she said.
“Whether you’re coming for the films, the music, the art or simply to spend time with your community, we want people to feel comfortable, included and inspired.”
Chill Zone and free sausage sizzle
headspace Gympie will host a dedicated Chill Zone where attendees can relax, connect and take a break from the program.
The organisation will also provide a free sausage sizzle, with drinks and snacks available to purchase.
Space Girls ON FILM is an all-ages event. No alcohol will be sold at the venue, and attendees are asked not to bring alcohol onto the premises.
Tickets are $5 for people under 25 and $15 for general admission.
