Surprise Chef to evoke moods in Mapleton

February 28, 20241 min read

  • Melbourne group Surprise Chef
  • Friday, March 1, 6:30pm
  • 2 Flaxton Dr, Mapleton

Surprise Chef’s vivid arrangements utilise time and space to build soundscapes that invite the listener into their world.

Hailing from just outside Melbourne, the group’s first two albums, “All News is Good News” and “Daylight Savings”, precipitated a cult-like fervour around the band.

They were championed by DJs and tastemakers who spread Surprise Chef’s music from their home studio to audiences in every corner of the globe.

The band was considered such a revelation among aficionados of funk and soul that they were signed to Big Crown Records in 2022, a Brooklyn-based label considered to be on the cutting edge of the genre.

The quintet’s cinematic sound references funk, jazz, and the samples that form the foundation of hip-hop.

On stage, expect to be taken on a virtuosic journey of masterful synth explorations, percussive break-downs, atmospheric colour and deep grooves.

Tickets: here.
