The Phosphenes return with heavy new single

April 22, 20262 min read

The Phosphenes tour poster

Caboolture band The Phosphenes return in 2026 with a fresh track, “DYV”, arriving next month.

The single lands alongside a new music video and a July east coast tour with So I Says To Mabel.

The run includes Vinnies Dive on the Gold Coast on July 2, The Presynct in Nambour on July 3, Greaser in Brisbane on July 4, The Duke in Newtown on July 10, Dicey Riley’s in Wollongong on July 11 and Hamilton Station Hotel in Newcastle on July 12.

“DYV” is described as open to interpretation, with something heavier around the edges and softer through the middle.

That balance feels fitting for The Phosphenes, who have built their name on grunge, alternative rock and power-pop with tight riffs, fuzzed-out bass and lyrics about being “young, dumb and lame.”

A bit about The Phosphenes

The Phosphenes formed in 2022 while still in high school, as 14 and 16 year olds looking for an outlet for teenage angst and hormones. Since then, they have quickly carved out a place in the Queensland scene, playing everywhere from dive bars and backyard parties to festivals and skate parks. Along the way they have also supported acts including Daily J, Great Gable, Frenzal Rhomb and End Of Fashion, while landing festival slots at Where We Belong, The Big Weekend and The Prince Summer Series.

It follows a string of releases that have helped define the band’s voice. “Telephone”, released in October 2025, tapped into the awkward post-first-date limbo of whether to call, wait it out or say nothing.

“Watching Films” followed in November, leaning into breakup fallout with the menu screen for Superbad playing in the background. Before that came the 2024 EP “Cletus”, described as fuzzier, funnier, louder and a little more feral, and their 2022 EP “Loose”, built around growing pains and self-discovery.

“DYV” was recorded at Airlock Studios with James See and mastered by Paul Blakey. It is due out on May 1.
