Sunshine Coast teenage rockers Wave Raiders are taking their next chapter full throttle with the release of their third song, “Don’t Wanna Be Late”.
Fresh from tearing up stages across South-East Queensland with The Screaming Jets, they are cranking it up again with a single launch at Solbar on April 27.
The high-energy act packed out their last single launch at the famous Maroochydore venue, with their debuted single, “Fun”, produced by Grammy and ARIA Award-winning producer Steve James.
Since then, they have teamed up with Sarah McLeod for “A Punk Rock Christmas”, and will support The Superjesus this June.
Wave Raiders have attracted a healthy following on YouTube.
‘A time capsule of childhood rebellion’
“Don’t Wanna Be Late” is a high-voltage rock banger, fuelled by the kind of impulsive energy that makes you want to drop everything and power on full-steam ahead.
The boys say this isn’t just another track, but a time capsule of childhood rebellion.
Frontman and guitarist Pete De Waard says it’s mostly inspired by their early days of prioritising kick-flips over going to school.
“One day, our principal called up our dad saying he knows why we were always late to school,” Pete says.
“It’s because we were always at the skate park.”
Pete relates closely to the song, because his family is notoriously late to everything.
“So yeah, this song is basically our life story,” he laughs.
