The pioneering band of blackfellas and whitefellas from far-northern Australia – Yothu Yindi – will bring an air of rock royalty to Woodford Folk Festival this New Year’s Eve.
Yothu Yindi play at Woodfordia on December 31 from 6.50pm-7.40pm, and also on January 1, 9:40pm-10.30pm. King Stingray are on December 30, 9.30pm-10.30pm.
Since bursting onto the scene in the late 80s with their album “Homeland Movement”, the ARIA Hall of Fame inductees have brought the world an eclectic mix of sounds.
From tribal Yolngu beats and vocals, to contemporary electronica and thumping rock ânâ roll, their music is contagious and there’s always a thumping message throughout it all.
Their descendants King Stingray – who have two members closely related to the band – are also playing, giving this year’s attendees an all-Aussie triple treat.
Still touring tirelessly with original members and fresh talent from the next generation, audiences know Yothu Yindi for their legendary stage shows and for injecting new fire into classic songs.
