A marvellous Full Moon Dance

August 24, 20234 min read

Verrierdale: Hidden in thick rainforest, under a story-book-like full moon, and at the back of an old community hall is one of the most high-vibe events on the Sunshine Coast.

As it fills with a crowd of top-class music lovers – from industry professionals mingling after work to everyday music lovers, and a sprinkling of hippy moon worshippers – Full Moon Dance is a relaxed affair, yet also has an energy that packs a punch better than the juice variety.

It is there beneath the stars, and before a lively stage laced with fairy lights producing catchy pumping tunes, is a gentle, boutique hippy community enjoying a beer and swaying with pure joy.

This spring dance, with that almost balmy breeze, will see headliner Bullhorn, an all-brass line up, supported by Fat Picnic, Allensworth and DJ Roland, all at Verrierdale Hall on September 30 from 7.30pm.

There’s a saying popularised by 80s cult movie The Breakfast Club that says, “you mess with the bull, you get the horns”.

Bullhorn take this attitude with them to the stage showing off their insane arrangements, obsessive grooves and upbeat rhythms, as these party-makers and their virtuosic musicianship whip the audience into a veritable frenzy.

This-nine-piece behemoth is formidable, armed with trumpets, trombones, saxophones, drums, the mighty sousaphone, and the impressive presence of Roman MC.

Audiences will experience surround-sound and intoxicating grooves as they descend into a rich world of sonic textures – created live, acoustic and real.

Bullhorn has two albums and they have toured Australia performing at major festivals including; Woodford Folk, Queenscliff, Earth Frequency, Falls Music & Arts, Caloundra Music and more.

Up next is Fat Picnic, a soul-ska explosion that preaches punchy horn lines and bangin’ reggae beats, culminating in an energetic and infectious live show.

Corrupted by an unquenchable lust for groove and outstanding noises, their music ranges across dub, funk, soul and ska.

Simply put, there just ain’t no party like a Fat Picnic party!

And to round out the night is Allensworth, as they diligently press boundaries and pay homage to the majesty of soul.

Hailing from California’s Huntington Beach, singer songwriter Jamie Allensworth is joined by his soul quartet to fuse rock and soul into a melting pot of true life anthemic stories.

The quartet, along with Jamie, are hard hitting multi-instrumentalists, fuelled by the desire to broaden the horizon of soul music and captivate anyone within earshot.

For the hangers-on, you can unleash your free spirit with DJ Rowland into the night, with the full moon event and all its sorcery finishing at midnight.

The lovely community hall supporters will keep you hydrated and fed with food and drinks for this over 18 licensed event.

Tickets to this event always sell out so on yer tricycle!

Pre-sale tickets are $35 + bf at Oztix: https://bit.ly/3QTFW3D.

Tickets are also in-store at Berkelouw Books, Eumundi, for $40, and a limited number will be available on the door.

Verrierdale Community Hall is at 460-478 Verrierdale Rd, Verrierdale. Full Moon Dance is on September 30, from 7.30pm.
