Love Thrills have a new song and it’s “Magic”

February 28, 20252 min read

Sunshine Coast all-female indie-punk band Love Thrills have a new song, and it’s a “bloody good” one.

“Magic” is an ambitious and mature addition to the repertoire of the dynamic queer group, best known for their emotive and powerful soundscapes.

Early reviews have praised it as simply: “a bloody good song”.

The song starts with an ethereal keytar performance by Mali that evokes the grandiose motive tracks of the 1980s.

Nyssa’s guitar then grounds the listener in the poignant realities of life while Jode’s vocals soar, encapsulating the trepidation and excitement of the narrative.

Take a listen to “Magic”:

Frontwoman Jodes explains: “At first glance, it may seem like the song is about a perpetual cheater. But when you dive deeper into the lyrics, it’s clear there’s more to it.

“It’s a story about growing up in a heteronormative society, realising you’re gay, and eventually finding love with your best friend who has been with you all along.

“It’s a journey of self-discovery and acceptance.”

The desperation and release in Jode’s voice when they sing “kiss me” and then belt out the words “this is MAGIC” encapsulates the emotional journey of finding one’s true path.

It’s not just a song, but a soaring rock anthem that showcases the band’s ability to blend compelling storytelling with powerful music.

Love Thrills is excited for fans old and new to experience this latest release, and hint at more incredible music on the horizon.
